Encounter Terms of Use

Version: 1.2

Effective date: 20 September 2026

1. Who we are

Encounter is operated by EONE Global Ltd, trading as Encounter or EONE Encounter (referred to as we, us or our).

EONE Global Ltd is registered in England and Wales under company number 17370090. Its registered office is 124-128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX. You can contact us at info@eoneculture.com.

2. These Terms

These Terms govern your access to and use of the Encounter website and service. By starting a guest profile, creating an account or using Encounter, you agree to these Terms. Please read them before continuing.

Our Privacy Notice explains how we use personal information. Our Cookie Notice explains the storage technologies used to keep accounts secure and maintain signed-in sessions. Those notices provide information and do not form consent to uses of personal information that require a separate choice.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use Encounter. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

The initial version of Encounter is intended for people in all countries except mainland China. You are responsible for ensuring that your use is lawful where you are located.

4. What Encounter provides

Encounter provides a relationship-pattern questionnaire. Your responses are processed using predetermined scoring rules to produce a personal profile across separate relationship-related dimensions.

Registered users with completed profiles can use Encounter Compare. One participant creates an invitation and agrees to create a comparison. The other participant must claim the invitation and separately choose to create the shared Encounter before a joint report is generated. The report compares predetermined signals calculated from each participant's profile. It does not disclose either participant's individual questionnaire answers.

Encounter is a reflection tool. It does not provide:

  • medical, mental-health, therapeutic or other professional advice;
  • a diagnosis or assessment of a health condition;
  • a measure of your worth or suitability for a relationship;
  • a compatibility score or prediction about a particular relationship; or
  • emergency or crisis support.

Scores and descriptions are simplified interpretations of the answers you provide. They may not capture your circumstances or how your preferences change over time. You should use your own judgement and seek an appropriately qualified professional where necessary.

An Encounter Compare report is also a reflection tool. It does not measure compatibility, predict the success of a relationship or replace either participant's judgement.

The initial service is provided without charge. If we introduce paid features, we will provide the applicable price and additional terms before you buy them.

5. Your account

You may start with a guest profile tied to this browser and may provide an optional nickname. You can later link an email address using a one-time sign-in link. A registered account owns one questionnaire profile.

If that email already belongs to a profile with saved answers, you must choose which profile to keep. Encounter does not merge answer sets. Replacing a profile or discarding the guest profile permanently deletes the other profile's answers after you confirm the choice.

You must:

  • provide an email address that you are authorised to use;
  • keep access to that email account and your signed-in devices secure;
  • not forward or share sign-in links;
  • notify us promptly if you believe somebody has accessed your account without permission; and
  • provide accurate information where accuracy is necessary for the service.

You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless that activity results from our failure to exercise reasonable care and skill.

6. Your answers and results

You control the answers you provide. You give us permission to store, process and display those answers only as needed to operate and secure the Encounter service in accordance with our Privacy Notice.

Your answers and results are private by default. If you choose Share report, Encounter prepares an image in your browser and asks your device to share it or downloads it to your device. You decide whether and where to send that image. Once you disclose it through another application or to another person, their use of it is outside our control. Review the image and its destination before sharing.

An Encounter Compare invitation link is intended for the person with whom you want to compare. Do not publish it or send it to somebody else. Before a joint report is created, the invited participant can decline and the inviter can cancel. Once both participants have agreed, each can view the same report while both accounts remain open.

The joint report is an immutable snapshot of selected derived signals at the time it is created. It stores the participant labels used at that time and does not change when either participant later changes their nickname, answers or profile. Deleting either participant's account removes the shared invitation and report for both participants.

We may use minimised service-usage statistics to operate, evaluate, fund and support Encounter, including presenting selected statistics in internal and external business meetings as described in our Privacy Notice. Meeting material may include aggregate account totals and pseudonymised per-account counts of completed required questions. It will not include usernames, nicknames, email addresses, stable internal identifiers, raw answers, individual question responses, profile scores, report text or written feedback.

Do not submit another person's information or complete the questionnaire while pretending to be another person.

7. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • use Encounter unlawfully, fraudulently or to harm another person;
  • attempt to access another user's account, answers or results;
  • probe, bypass or interfere with authentication, security or access controls;
  • introduce malicious code or disrupt the service;
  • use automated tools to scrape, overload or reverse engineer the service, except where applicable law expressly permits this;
  • reproduce or commercially exploit the questionnaire, scoring rules, design or other protected material without permission; or
  • use Encounter results to make high-impact decisions about another person, including decisions about employment, housing, credit, insurance, education or access to essential services.

8. Intellectual property

We or our licensors own the Encounter name, software, visual design, questionnaire wording, scoring materials and other service content, except for material that is clearly identified as belonging to somebody else.

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable permission to use Encounter for its intended non-commercial purpose while you comply with these Terms.

These Terms do not transfer ownership of your personal information to us.

9. Availability and changes to the service

We aim to provide Encounter with reasonable care and skill, but we do not promise that it will always be available or free from every error. Maintenance, security incidents and circumstances outside our reasonable control may interrupt access.

We may change the service to improve it, protect users, comply with law or retire features. Where a change materially reduces an active consumer service, we will give reasonable notice where practicable.

Questionnaire wording and scoring may change in place. Existing answers may then be described or recalculated using the current wording and rules, and an earlier report may not be reproducible.

10. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Encounter at any time. You may request deletion of your account and personal information as described in the Privacy Notice.

We may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to:

  • protect users or the security and integrity of the service;
  • investigate suspected misuse;
  • comply with law or a binding request; or
  • respond to a material or repeated breach of these Terms.

We will provide notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue where it is reasonable and safe to do so. We may act without advance notice where urgent action is reasonably required for security, legal compliance or prevention of harm.

11. Responsibility when things go wrong

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or our failure to exercise reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable when you accepted these Terms.

Encounter is provided for personal use. We are not responsible for business losses, including loss of profit, revenue, business opportunity or business data, arising from use of the consumer service.

We are not responsible for another person's actions after you choose to share your report, or for the operation and privacy practices of the third-party application you choose for sharing.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the service, law, security or our organisation. We will publish the updated version and effective date.

If a change materially affects your rights or obligations, we will give reasonable advance notice and, where appropriate, ask you to accept the new Terms before continuing to use Encounter. Changes do not apply retrospectively unless the law requires this or you expressly agree.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory rights you have under the law of the part of the United Kingdom or other permitted territory where you live.

Please contact us first so that we can try to resolve a concern. Nothing in these Terms prevents you from bringing proceedings in a court available to you under applicable consumer law.
